Nightwing director talks imaginative and prescient for live-action film, the way it differs from Batman

DC and Warner Bros. are pushing forward with a Nightwing live-action film, and director Chris McKay sat down with the Shanlian on Batman podcast staff to speak about the place he needs to take the character.

Nightwing — in any other case often called Dick Grayson, Batman’s former right-hand-man — Robin, debuted in January 1984 in Tales of the Teen Titans #44. Ten years later, the character received his first solo collection, adopted by a mini-series. Grayson has been the chief of the Teen Titans, a super-spy and the vigilante protector of Gotham’s neighboring metropolis, Blüdhaven, and is famend (that is neither a joke nor an exaggeration) for having “the perfect bottom in comics.”

McKay stated not like Batman, Nightwing didn’t come from privilege and consequently, he’s not the identical “dour and offended” hero as DC’s most iconic character. As a substitute, McKay continued, Nightwing got here from a household of circus performers and as such, will preserve that sort of exuberance whereas donning his superhero costume.

“He’s an enchanting man to me, as a result of he had all the identical issues occur to him,” McKay stated. “He’s received a few of the similar negatives as Bruce Wayne after which from a society standpoint – clearly he was adopted into Bruce Wayne’s life … however he didn’t begin that approach. He’s this man who has all these negatives after which much more negatives and but he stays … These are issues why I like Dick Grayson, why I like the concept of Nightwing as a film.”

Warner Bros. introduced final week it was pushing forward with a live-action Nightwing film and McKay, greatest recognized for his work on The Lego Batman Film, would direct. Nightwing will exist as a part of the DC Prolonged Universe, which is at the moment populated by Man of Metal, Batman v Superman: Daybreak of Justice, and Suicide Squad.

There’s at the moment no estimated launch window for the film.
